Pickup

Thank you for purchasing your kitten from us! This page is provided to give you the information you need at pickup.

It's such an exciting time to come pick up your kitten. I am putting the information here that you will need for the process to be orderly.
When you purchase through links on our website, we may earn a commission. Here’s how it works.

Things you will need at the pickup

(This does not include items you will need at your home, including a liter box, toys, collar, food dishes, kitten food, wet kitten food and cat tree etc).

  1. A CAT CARRIER: A cat Carrier to carry your kitten home in. Please DO NOT try to carry the kitten outside the carrier in the car. They can hide under seats, get hurt, or get away. And the carrier provides a safe place where they can feel safe. We do on occasion stick our hand in the carrier to pet the kitten’s head so they feel better and that works to calm the kitten if they are crying or upset on the way home. You will use this to transport your cat to the vet in the future, so it’s good to get it now and get one big enough that it will fit the kitten when they are grown.
  2. 4 HEALTH KITTEN AND CAT FOOD FROM TRACTOR SUPPLY. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOOD. This food is made with all natural ingredients and is the best price for kitten food I can find for this high quality of food.
  3. LITER. Purina Multi Cat Light Liter. If you can’t get this exact liter, mix the liter I gave you with the liter you are going to use to transition them. If you are going with non-clay liter like pretty liter, give the kitten two boxes. Make sure the kitten is going in the new box consistently before you remove the previous kind of liter.
  4. A PORTABLE LITER BOX. A portable liter box if you are driving the kitten over 2-3 hours, including the travel time of the person meeting you. We suggest you offer a liter box to the kitten when you stop to use the restroom. This can be made from a small box with liter in it. Be sure to use packing tape on the back of the box and a liner so it’s water proof.
  5. ABSORBANT PUPPY / KITTEN PADS. An absorbent pad for the bottom of the carrier if you do not have a liter box along with replacements.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE AT PICK UP:

A SMALL BAG OF OUR CAT FOOD 4 Health Cat Food. We let our cats have the dry food they want and leave it out. We have never had an overweight cat, ever. We do not recommend you change their food.

TWO CANS WET CAT FOOD: 4 HEALTH WET CAT FOOD. We give the kittens wet food every day MIXED WITH AN EQUAL PART OF WATER so it’s easy for them to eat and they LOVE it. The 4 Health is in a pate’ with very few chunks so it works well.

MEDICAL PASSPORT/RECORD: The medical passport or medical record for your kitten from our vet, the Mancelona veterinary hospital.

And the best thing: Your kitten or kittens!

CONTRACT: On the day you get your kitten (OR BEFORE) you will sign your contract if you have not already done so. Jodi will then email you a copy of the contract for your records. If you sign electronically you will get your contract automatically via email.

Please go directly home and do not take your kitten to another place (like a friend’s house or the park). We know you are excited to share your kitten with the world and we know how beautiful they are, but they need to get to a safe spot because this has been the biggest day of their lives. Your kitten will need to be seen by a vet and you will need to consult with the vet about vaccinations, what contact with other humans or animals is appropriate for the kitten at what age, and any other issues the vet may share with you.

  1. KITTEN FOOD – 4 Health – for Cats and Kittens I find this to be a fabulous consistent choice and high quality. You don’t need to bring this to the pickup but you should have it at home for when the kitten gets home.
  2. LITER. Meijer light liter plain or baking soda. If you can’t get this exact liter, mix the liter I gave you with the liter you are going to use to transition them. If you are going with non-clay liter like pretty liter, give the kitten two boxes. Make sure the kitten is going in the new box consistently before you remove the previous kind of liter.
  3. KITTEN TOYS. Don’t buy them for tons of money each. Check out Amazon for the BULK OPTION for about $25. We prefer toys that can be sanitized and washed. Plush toys have a limited life and eventually must be thrown away.
  4. WET CAT FOOD. 4 Health for Cats. On the back it has a kitten portion. It is for cats or kittens. We give the kittens wet food every day mixed with an equal part of water so it’s easy for them to eat and they LOVE it. It is like a Pate’ so it is easy to eat on their baby teeth and easy to digest.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED AT HOME

Registration with TICA.org:

TICA is the The International Cat Association. This is like the AKC for Cats. This is the pedigree / registration for your kitten.

Your registration will be provided when you provide proof that your kitten has been fixed by a vet. Even if you choose to not ask for the registration, your kitten is still required to be fixed and we will be inquiring to make sure this has happened. If we find that you have violated the terms of this agreement or you do not respond, we will ask a court to order the kitten to be returned and that you pay the expenses of the law suit. If you intend on breeding, this is not the right place for you.

Adjustment issues with kittens / cats

Vaccinations can cause diarrhea in kittens. Long trips and transitions to a new home can cause diarrhea as well. If you see some soft stools when the kitten gets home give it 5-7 days for adjustment as they have had a very emotional time being separated from their mom and siblings. No need to worry as they will adopt you as their new family and a part of the pack quite quickly. But these things do take time and adjustment.

The kitten may be shy at first and not want to come out. Still, get the kitten pick them up gently and interact with the kitten and make sure they know you are a safe place. Use a soft voice and being gentle with the kitten. The kitten will adjust much sooner if you make sure you are having contact and it is positive. When you bring wet food to the kitten, be sure to pet and interact with the kitten while they are eating so they are used to a human interfering when they eat.

If you have concerns after transfer home, please call me.

Your contract states you will get your kitten to the vet for a health check and or updated vaccinations and care within 7 days of you getting possession of the kitten. Please schedule that visit now.

PRODUCTS WE RECOMMEND:

We recommend products based on 1. Items we use, the best price we can find on those items, and the quality of the item.

Every now and again we find a family in need for an emotional support kitten or another non profit that would benefit from a kitten. For example, we are working with a mental health facility to place a kitten there at a reduced price for emotional support and comfort. The links used in this website, the traffic to our social media pages, and other small supplemental benefits we receive from using our connections wisely help to fund the reduced cost of the therapy or support kittens for the organizations and family we support. We also donate out of our pocket to place these special kittens.

The products we recommend here are the ones that we use with our cats and kittens. However, we do earn a commission if you use our link to Amazon. Amazon doesn’t pay anyone if you go directly to Amazon instead. So to support our good cause, please purchase from amazon through our link.
